The Shape Of Things To Come

I'm thoroughly convinced that the future of educational media is convergent technology. That is, devices coming together in order to allow greater possiblity in a smaller package. Riverview is going to start experimenting with the iPod Touch in the next year or two and with the advent of Amazon's Kindle DX, the long, slow, ponderous march toward an e-book reader begins. I am convinced that e-books are one of the best green futures especially for educational institutions. The school could make a deal with the publishing house, the student buys a device at the beginning of their tenure and the IT department manages maintenance of the devices (sorry guys, love you, but there you go...) so if a student breaks it or the device fails, it gets brought in, they give the student a 'loaner' and off you go.

In the interest of this end, I found this video of TechCrunch's mystical device, the Crunchpad. It looks lovely in this video and if we can get e-ink displays in color in the next few years, the form-factor is almost ripe.

So check out this video:

If it ever comes to market, it will be delivered to your house by unicorn...
